The Trust is seeking to establish a good working environment for research, mainly to promote multidisciplinary solutions to both global warming and the financial crisis.
An opportunity has arisen to buy a long lease on an existing office building on University-owned land near other University facilities and laboratories in Cambridge. The cost is beyond the reach of the Trust (the only substantial asset of which is a controlling interest in the consultancy Cambridge Econometrics), so we are appealing for substantial donations to contribute to the purchase of the lease.
The intention is to develop the offices as a zero-carbon-rated retrofitted building - thereby exemplifying in practice the construction work needed to reduce climate change. Occupation of the offices by the owner will mean greater responsibility for environmental practices. The building will include a research space to host international conferences and meetings, in surroundings designed to encourage new thinking about economics itself, and its relationships with other disciplines.
